Car repair insurance for good drivers

Learn how Root can help if you’re in an accident and find yourself in need of auto repairs.

Does insurance cover car repairs?

Yes, car insurance can cover repairs, but only if they are for damages resulting from a covered accident. You’ll also need to have the right level of coverage.

If you want to be covered in the event an auto collision or other incident causes your car to need repairs, you’ll want to have Collision or Comprehensive coverage. Liability alone won’t help.

Collision protects you if you’re in an accident with another car (even if you’re at fault), hit an object (like a tree), and even if you’re in a single-car accident (just you).

If you were to get hit by someone with no insurance, or who fled the scene, Collision would help pay for auto repairs after you pay out your deductible. If your car is a total loss, your insurance company would provide you with a payout equal to the market value of your vehicle, after you pay your deductible.

Comprehensive helps pay for damage that results from anything outside of an accident with another vehicle and that is out of your control such as vandalism or a falling object.

Let’s say your car got hit by a falling tree branch. Comprehensive would help pay for repairs after you pay out your deductible. And like with Collision, if your vehicle is determined to be a total loss, your insurance company would provide you with a payout that represents the market value of your car after you pay your deductible.

With the proper insurance, you’ll be protected if you ever need to go to a mechanic for car repairs after an accident. However, if the type of accident isn’t one that’s covered under your policy, you’ll have to pay for those damages on your own.

How Root can help when your car is in the auto repair shop

Car in the shop? Need a rental in the meantime? Root can help with that!

We offer Rental Car coverage because we know how important it is to be able to keep moving even when your car isn’t.

Sometimes referred to as “rental car reimbursement,” this is a useful coverage to have on your policy so you won’t miss a beat if your car is ever in the shop after a covered accident.

If your vehicle is your primary way of getting around, this would be a useful coverage to add to your policy. Root customers can easily update their coverages anytime in our easy-to-use mobile app

What about car repair insurance for older cars?

Even if your vehicle is old, Root can still protect you under any of the coverages mentioned above in case you’re involved in a covered accident with your car. If you simply wish to have Rental Car coverage to be safe, you can have that too—no matter the age of your vehicle.

Since older cars are sometimes less reliable, your car might occasionally break down on its own. Unfortunately, normal wear and tear that results in your car breaking down isn’t covered under any car insurance policy.

But there’s good news. Root offers 24/7 Roadside Assistance with every policy as an extra layer of protection for our customers. So if you find yourself stranded and in need of a tow, we’ll send someone out anytime you need.

How much does car repair insurance cost?

That depends on how much coverage you’d like to have. And for many car insurance companies, it also depends on a variety of other factors like your demographics (ZIP code, marital status, age, etc.)

Oftentimes, car insurance companies will raise rates for things like your age, occupation, or level of education. At Root, we like to do things the fair way

Root is different type of insurance company

We love it when good drivers save money. So we aim to keep our rates as low as possible.

We’re able to do this by basing what you pay on a factor that, unlike your demographics, is actually within your control—your driving behavior.

You see, Root only insures the best drivers. So unlike many car insurance companies, we are generally able to keep rates low so our customers don’t have to account for the mistakes of riskier drivers on the road.

Getting started with Root is simple. Just download our easy-to-use app, and take the test drive. After driving around like you normally would for a few weeks, you’ll receive a quote based primarily on how you drive—not who you are.

Because of our commitment to fairness, our customers can save up to $900/year on their car insurance premiums.
